Lets Start This Off With A Quick Minimum Requirement

Here we go with the first of a series of my Tips & Tricks for Photoshop –

The first Tip is of course – You need Photoshop! Duh!

Now, you don’t need the full-blown CS5, Photoshop Elements is great software too, and much easier to learn. Elements 9 is the latest version, but for now, any version from about 6 up will work great. Earlier than that, some of my Tips & Tricks may not work.

If you’re serious about wanting to work with your photographs, you’ll need to get away from the free Picasso and/or iPhoto photo editing packages. These are both great  programs for what they were design for; The casual photographer that likes to capture life’s moments and to share with family and friends. Both offer lots of flexibly and fun tools to play with your photos while providing an easy interface for keeping them organized too. But, if you’d like to take your photography to the next level, or have noticed that you keep running into the wall when you’re trying to do certain things with your images, then it’s time to take the lunge to Photoshop.

Photoshop Elements 9 can be purchased at most Costco’s if you’re on a PC, though, for some reason they don’t sell the Mac version. Otherwise, you can get either version on-line at Adobe, Amazon, Adorama or B&H Video for about $100 or less. You may be able to find earlier used versions for much less, but I’d stick with getting the latest version.

Now, Photoshop CS5 is the powerhouse version. You don’t really need that for many of the Tips & Tricks I’ll cover. If there are Tips & Tricks that will only work on CS3 and above, I’ll let you know ahead of time. Now, those of you with CS3 or above, don’t worry about this being an “Elements Only” site – It’s not. I’ll cover many Tips & Tricks that will work in both, along with many that will only work on the CS3 and above group.

Once you’ve become comfortable with Elements and have discovered some of its limitations, as well as expanded your photographic abilities, then it may be time to jump to CS5 (or whatever flavor is current at that time).

So, that’s the starting requirements to play along with Tony’s Exciting Photoshop & Lightroom Tips & Tricks. Pretty easy.

Now, sign up so you’ll be able to follow my site, read updates and have fun!

See you back here again real soon.

Thanks for visiting.

Geez… I just looked at this post and found at least 4 miss-spelled words – Shame on me!

They have been corrected and the public flogging has been canceled.
